Learn your letters the fun way with our Shoot the Sound activity!
This activity takes children from not knowing any letter sounds all the way through to blending and segmenting to read and spell words!
You'll start by scanning the Qr code and watching the demonstration video and then listening to how to say the letter sounds correctly (these maybe different to how you were taught!). You can then start by following the easy step by step instructions showing you exactly how to introduce a letter to your child.
The game is played by placing a letter block onto the stand and calling out a sound. Your child will find the letter that matches the sound they can hear and they will knock the letter off the stand using the water gun provided.
Children love using their hand eye coordination to aim and shoot whilst also learning the sounds that letters make.
Once your child is confident with letter sounds, you will use this activity to practise blending sounds (pushing sounds together) as well as segmenting words (breaking words up into their individual sounds) These skills are fundamental to reading and spelling and the more practise children have the quicker and more fluent they become.
With some adult input now, your child will master these skills and will be reading and writing independently before you know it!
With adult guidance and a handy letter formation sheet, use the pen to follow the lines and practise letter formation on the reverse of each card. A damp cloth will clean the card after use, ready for next time.
